why?
have you ever heard someone from a rural area say "there's nothing to do!"
living in the highlands you hear it every day - but this shouldn't be the case.
we want to provide rural communities with opportunities for musical and social activities - it's all about accessibility.
no opportunity = no participation.
location should not be a reason for exclusion.
at amaSing we don't believe in the status quo so we try to run everything a little differently. we seldom use capital letters because we're not your average capital letter using project.
why is the treble clef in the logo backwards? well…it not only make an S, which is rather cool - but we're tilting the accepted world of musical engagement. really, we try our best to put a spin on the way we all interact with music.
what?
amaSing is a social music project
we aim to engage rural scottish, highland communities in meaningful musical activities
the project aims to provide collaborative musical opportunities and a performance platform in two stages.
one…
to establish and run music groups with young people aged 16-24 across the highland region
to encourage and empower young people through musical creation.
two…
we are hosting community musical events in 2013.
our feature two-day, multi-venue music festival will be held on 31st aug and 1st sep.
it will have an acoustic song theme with an interactive focus.
it will include meaningful and engaging performances
and activites songwriting competition.
the festival aims to include
the entire strathpeffer and surrounding areas in the event
thus creating a true sense of community in a rural setting
getting with the times…
utilizing video-conferencing technology at all amaSing events
we integrate local the communities into the global, musical network
who?
the amaSing story started with emily scott
a graduate of the BA (Hons) applied music course at strathclyde university in glasgow, scotland
emily recently undertook a prestigious music fellowship at the innovative D&F academy in hamburg, germany.
as part of this year long fellowship, she committed to establishing and fulfilling a social project
using music to inspire change, within the highlands of scotland.
and… amaSing was born.
with a musical soul raised in the highlands
she wants to give back to the culture and community that shaped the musician she is today.
emily scott
is an active singer, songwriter, pianist, violinist and guitarist, she is keen to spark a good bit of music back on home soil.
during her university years, emily was a member of the glasgow studio orchestra, celtic ensemble, string ensemble, strathclyde university chamber choir and the female a capella trio, ms joe.
as member of the national youth choir of scotland (NYCoS) she performed in many venues around scotland and britain; including the edinburgh usher hall, the glasgow royal concert hall, the glasgow city halls, and the royal albert hall, london, as part of the bbc proms. emily has toured germany and central europe with nycos, and had the wonderful opportunity of performing in some of europe's greatest concert venues
